Austin is a major city in, and the capital of, the state of Texas. It is also the county seat of Travis County. It is the second-most populous capital city in the nation, behind Phoenix, and the eleventh-most populous city in the country. Approximately 948,000 people reside within city limits.

The city is known for its rocking music scene, world-class cuisine, and liberal culture in an otherwise conservative state. There are many museums, retail boutiques, and sporting events for residents and tourists alike to enjoy year-round. Lady Bird Lake, named for former first lady Ladybird Johnson, is one of the city’s most revered outdoor recreational sites. The prolific PBS program Austin City Limits is filmed in Austin, and the city also hosts the annual South by Southwest music and technology festival.
Sports & Culture
The University of Texas at Austin is home to the popular Longhorns football, baseball, and basketball teams. The Longhorns football team plays at the school’s stadium and is a tough competitor in the NCAA Division and FBS League. In 2006, the Longhorns baseball team won the College World Series.
